Notepad Online
A distraction-free online notepad that saves as you type - every note stays in your browser's local storage and never leaves your device.
Scratch pad
Notes save automatically to this browser's local storage - they stay on your device and survive page reloads, but are not synced anywhere.
About Notepad Online
Notepad Online is a plain-text scratch pad that runs entirely in your browser. There is no account to create and nothing to install: open the page, start typing, and your text is kept in this browser's local storage. It reloads automatically the next time you visit on the same device and browser.
Saving happens on its own, a fraction of a second after you stop typing, so you never have to press a save button. A live footer shows the current word and character count and the time of the last save. Because storage is local, your notes survive page reloads and browser restarts - but they are tied to this one browser and are not synced to any server or other device.
Nothing you type is uploaded. The editor is fully client-side, so it keeps working without a connection once the page has loaded, and your words are never transmitted to our EU servers or anyone else. That makes it a safe place for quick drafts, sensitive snippets, or anything you would rather not paste into a cloud document.
When you want to keep a note beyond the browser, one click downloads it as a plain notes.txt file, and a Clear button wipes the pad instantly. Bear in mind that clearing browser data, using private mode, or switching devices will remove or hide stored notes, so download anything you need to keep.
How to use it
- 1Open the notepad and start typing in the text area - no sign-up required.
- 2Let it autosave; the footer confirms the last save time a moment after you pause.
- 3Return anytime in the same browser to find your text restored automatically.
- 4Click Download .txt to export the current note as a plain text file.
- 5Use Clear to wipe the pad when you are finished.
Common use cases
- -Jotting quick notes, to-do items or ideas without opening a heavier app.
- -Drafting messages, commit notes or snippets you will paste elsewhere.
- -Holding sensitive text such as tokens or private drafts you don't want on a cloud service.
- -Stripping formatting by pasting rich text in and copying plain text back out.
- -Keeping a persistent scratch pad open through a work session that survives reloads.
Frequently asked questions
- Where are my notes stored?
- In your browser's local storage on your own device. Notes save automatically as you type and reload the next time you open the page in the same browser. Nothing is sent to a server.
- Will my notes still be there after I close the tab?
- Yes, as long as you reopen the page in the same browser and haven't cleared your browsing data. Local storage persists across page reloads and browser restarts.
- Are my notes synced across devices?
- No. Storage is local to a single browser on a single device. To move a note elsewhere, download it as a .txt file and open it on the other device.
- Is my text private?
- Yes. The notepad runs entirely in your browser, so your text never leaves your device - there is no upload, no account and no tracking.
- What happens in private or incognito mode?
- The notepad still works during the session, but private windows discard local storage when closed, so notes won't persist. Download anything you want to keep.
- How do I save a note as a file?
- Click the Download .txt button to export the current text as a plain notes.txt file you can store or share.
