QR Scanner

Read and decode QR codes with your device camera or an uploaded image, with all decoding done in your browser so photos are never sent to a server.

Scan a code

Point your camera at a QR code or upload a photo of one. Decoding runs entirely in your browser - images are never uploaded.

About QR Scanner

The QR Scanner reads QR codes two ways: through a live camera feed or from an image you upload. It is a browser-based QR reader, so you can decode a code without installing an app, and the picture is processed on your own device rather than on a remote service.

When you start a camera scan, the tool requests camera permission and prefers the rear, environment-facing lens on phones. It then examines each video frame continuously until it locks onto a code, at which point it stops the camera and shows the result. If a camera is unavailable or permission is denied, you can upload a photo or screenshot instead and the scanner will search that image for a code.

The decoded content appears as plain text, whether that is a URL, a message, contact details, or any other data. When the result is a web link, the scanner offers an explicit button to open it in a new tab rather than navigating automatically, so you can inspect where a code actually points before you visit it. That makes it a practical way to check a suspicious code found on a sticker or flyer.

Because decoding runs locally with nothing uploaded, the scanner is safe to use on sensitive codes. The page is served from EU infrastructure with no trackers and no third-party scanning service, so neither the raw image nor the decoded text is ever sent off your device.

How to use it

  1. 1Click Start camera scan and allow camera access, then point the rear camera at the QR code.
  2. 2Hold the code steady and in frame until it is detected; the decoded result appears automatically.
  3. 3Alternatively, click Upload an image and select a photo or screenshot that contains a QR code.
  4. 4Read the decoded text, and if it is a link, use the Open link in a new tab button to visit it deliberately.

Common use cases

  • -Reading a QR code shown on a desktop screen by uploading a screenshot of it.
  • -Decoding a printed code when no phone scanner is within reach.
  • -Inspecting a suspicious code's destination URL before choosing to open it.
  • -Recovering the text or link behind a code from an old photo or flyer.

Frequently asked questions

Are the images I scan uploaded anywhere?
No. Both live camera frames and uploaded images are decoded in your browser on your own device. No picture and no decoded content is ever sent to a server.
Why won't my camera turn on in the scanner?
The browser needs camera permission and a secure HTTPS connection to access the camera. If access is blocked or the device has no camera, use the image-upload option to decode a photo or screenshot instead.
Can I scan a QR code from a screenshot or saved image?
Yes. Choose Upload an image and select any photo or screenshot; the scanner searches it for a QR code and displays the decoded content.
Does the scanner open links automatically?
No. It shows the decoded URL first and only opens it when you click the button. This lets you check where a code leads before visiting a potentially unsafe link.
My image will not decode. What should I do?
Use a sharper, closer, well-lit photo where the whole code is visible and square to the camera. Blur, glare, or a partially cropped code can stop the scanner from finding it.
